Travel Insurance. Also Get A European Health Insurance Card.

Hands up all those who remember the old E111 medical forms you were supposed to have if you travelled in Europe? I can see all those blank faces!

Well, great news is that it doesn’t matter any more. The E111 form was replaced at the beginning of January 2006 by a new European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

This EHIC is valid for up to 5 years and entitles you to the same level of medical care in the country you’re travelling in, as would be enjoyed by the residents of that country. The card covers discounted and free medical care including emergency treatment, and applies to all the EEC countries plus Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. But be aware that the treatment you’re entitled to might not include all the treatments you get free of charge under the National Health Service here in Britain.

Nevertheless, we believe that it’s wise to carry a EHIC as it could save you time, money and a great deal of hassle if you’re unlucky enough to need medical attention. It can cut through some of the inevitable red tape you’d be faced with if you were relying just on the medical provisions of your travel insurance policy.

You should also be aware that in many areas of Europe, the best medical attention is still reserved for those with private insurance cover. Private insurance bypasses the long queues of local residents waiting patently in inhospitable corridors after all who wants to spend days of their holiday not only ill, but queuing as well!

Another point is that nationalised health care is only available at nationalised hospitals which, in some countries, are hundreds of miles apart. They tend to be located where the local population work and live – not where you enjoy your holidays! Therefore, you may be a long way from the nearest nationalised hospital whereas private medical and dental clinics are to be found in many tourist areas catering primarily for holidaymakers. Their standard is usually good albeit in local terms, they’re expensive.

Whilst we’ve been discussing medical care, don’t forget that private travel insurance covers you for much more than just medical expenses. Most policies will even pay for you to be flown home to the UK if you’re really ill. Holiday cancellation (due to prior illness), holiday curtailment, loss of luggage or individual items are all aspects normally covered by the insurance.

To be as safe as possible, we recommend that all travellers get a European Health Insurance Card and comprehensive travel insurance. After all, you’ve saved up for ages for the holiday and if something goes wrong the last thing you want is to be worried about the financial implications.

As with most insurance, the best travel insurance bargains are to be found on the Internet. Search on your favourite search engine for travel insurance. The brokers usually provide the best value for money as they will have access to a wide range of insurance providers and can pick the best for you. You can try the sites run by the individual insurance companies but they’ll only offer you one option their policy! A broker can offer you a range of solutions.

We say, no matter how you arrange it, get travel insurance and get peace of mind.

‘I think I have coronavirus’: Symptoms to watch, when to call a doctor, getting tested—and what to expect overall…

As the coronavirus outbreak continues to intensify, people are increasingly taking extra precautions in maintaining health and hygiene. Some schools and employers have responded to the global pandemic by shifting to online learning or asking employees to work from home.

With more than 127,000 COVID-19 cases worldwide (as of Thursday, March 12, 2020), according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, one question that still lingers is, “What should I do — and expect — if I think I have COVID-19?”

The short answer is: It depends. Although the disease has led to more than 4,700 deaths, “the most important message is that if you’re young and otherwise relatively healthy, it will most likely be similar to a common cold — or, worst case, the flu,”

If you feel sick and reasonably believe you have COVID-19, here’s a list of frequently asked questions, including symptoms to watch for, when to see a doctor, and getting tested:

What are the main symptoms of COVID-19?

According to the World Health Organization, common signs include fever, coughing, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and death.

Symptoms range from mild to severe and may occur anywhere from two to 14 days after exposure, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says.

If you feel sick now, it’s possible you might have the common cold or flu (both have similar symptoms to COVID-19), Dr. Gregory Poland, professor of medicine and infectious diseases at the Mayo Clinic, tells CNBC Make It. The only way to tell if you have COVID-19 is to test for it — although there’s more reason to think you do if you’re in the higher risk group, he says.

Those at high risk include people over 60 who also have serious long-term health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease or lung disease, Nancy Messonnier, director of CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said during a press briefing. People who smoke or vape may also have worse outcomes, according to New York City officials.

When should I see a doctor?

The CDC recommends calling your doctor if you develop any of the main symptoms, and have been in close contact with an infected person or recently traveled to an area with widespread of COVID-19.

If you have symptoms of severe illness (i.e., high or very low body temperature, shortness of breath, confusion or feeling you might pass out) and are a high-risk individual, you should seek medical care in an emergency department.

The CDC advises calling ahead before going to a doctor’s office or emergency room. Tell them about your symptoms and recent travels so they can prepare for your arrival. You may be asked to wear a face mask to avoid infecting others.

How do I get tested for COVID-19?

If your doctor thinks a test is appropriate, based on the most recent CDC guidelines, he or she can request a test. However, since the breadth of testing capacity is still unclear, there’s no guarantee you’ll get one right away.

In February, under mounting pressure from state and local officials, the US Food and Drug Administration expanded the types of labs that could run COVID-19 tests, allowing private national labs like Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp to start testing. (As of March 10, 2020, at least 78 state and local health labs in the US have testing capacity, according to Association of Public Health Laboratories.)

Testing involves taking samples from the nose and mouth or, for seriously ill patients, the lungs. Timing for test results will vary depending on the lab. For some, like the Stanford Health Care Clinical Virology Laboratory, results can take anywhere from 12 to 24 hours.

What if I test positive?

For the most part, the CDC suggests:

Staying at home (except to get medical care). Restrict activities outside of home. Avoid public places (i.e., work or school) and public transportation (i.e., trains, buses, ride-sharing services and taxis).

Separating yourself from others in your home. If you live with other people, stay in a separate room and, if possible, use a separate bathroom.

Wearing a face mask. If you can’t wear a face mask (i.e., because it causes trouble breathing), then those who live with you should wear one when they’re in the same room as you.

Washing your hands often. Do this with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you don’t have access to soap and water, clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

When can I go back to work?

If you’re sick, the CDC advises staying home from work until at least 24 hours after your fever — 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius) or greater — is gone.

Your employer may have a pandemic preparedness plan in place, so make sure you speak with your supervisor about your options. (For more information, here’s the CDC’s Interim Guidance for Businesses and Employers.)

Is there a treatment or vaccine available for COVID-19?

There are no antiviral medications that treat COVID-19 at this time, according to the CDC. However, just like any viral infection, Dr. Kesh says taking certain measures can help:

Getting plenty of rest.

Staying well hydrated.

Taking medication (i.e., acetaminophen, ibuprofen or naproxen) to reduce fever and ease aches and pains. (Make sure you follow directions and keep track of all the ingredients and the doses.)

There’s more to a gaming laptop besides raw speed. You can pack it with the best graphics card processor (GPU), tons of fast SSD storage to hold your games, a gazillion-core processor, a rock-solid hard drive for secondary storage and the fastest, most colorful display around — and it can still fall short. Those powerful components may overheat at the worst moments or you might just experience some instability. Or perhaps you don’t want to always use an external keyboard, but the built-in version feels like mashed potatoes under your WASD keys.
And not all games are bottlenecked by dual cores or a last-generation GTX, so it’s not a given that you’ll need to bust your budget, either.
With almost any gaming laptop, no matter how fast or slow, the compromise you make is battery life, which can last as little as two hours. You also can’t play most complex games — GPU- or CPU-intensive ones — on battery power. The processors tend to get throttled back and screens dim, so a laptop that feels nimble when connected turns lead-footed on battery, turning your gaming experience into a battle of frustration. But components do matter. The fastest GPU currently available in a laptop is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080, followed by the RTX 2080 Max-Q; the Max-Q versions run at slower frequencies than their full-size siblings — to keep the noise and heat down and to fit into thinner designs. RTX models also accelerate ray-traced rendering and provide intelligent upscaling (DLSS) where it’s explicitly supported. If your favorite games don’t use it, the lower-end GTX 1660Ti incorporates the latest generation of Nvidia’s technology (Turing), without the extra cost burden of the RT cores, though it’s not up to the equal of the last-generation GTX 1080.
We’re still waiting for the mobile and Max-Q versions of the updated desktop GPUs, the 2060, 2070 and 2080 Super. AMD has released its next-generation laptop GPUs, the Radeon RX 5700M, 5600M and 5500M, but we’ve yet to test them in a Windows system (a custom version of the 5500M is in the latest MacBook Pro 16).
On the CPU side, more cores may help, though at the moment most games still don’t make use of more than four; that’s partly why so many game laptop manufacturers are pivoting their marketing of the high-powered models to creative uses. The head of the mobile CPU pack are currently the eight-core, ninth generation Intel Core i9-9980HK and i9-9980H, since we’re waiting on the 10th-generation versions of Intel’s mobile processors. AMD recently announced its Ryzen 4000 series of mobile CPUs, which we’re also waiting to see in laptops. And then there are the screens. Asus and Acer announced laptops with a 300 Hz refresh rate at IFA 2019, but they’ve yet to materialize. They’re not worth the wait for most of us: 240Hz max should be fine for those few times you can get frame rates above 240fps. Even 144Hz will do for many people, but artifacts like tearing, caused by the screen refresh rate becoming out of sync with the frame rate, depend on your games as much as your hardware.

Food delivery during the coronavirus outbreak: Follow these 3 rules to stay safe…

Keep yourself and your food or grocery delivery driver healthy and germ-free with these tips.

If you’re staying home more often as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, you might be wondering: Can I still order food or grocery delivery? And is it safe?

The answer, for now, is yes: Food and grocery delivery services such as DoorDash, Postmates, Grubhub, Uber Eats and Instacart are still up and running.

There is currently no evidence that COVID-19 can be transmitted through food or food packaging, according to the CDC and the FDA, though germs are known to live on surfaces up to nine days. The bigger potential issue is transmitting the new coronavirus from delivery person to customer, or vice versa, through coughing, vaporized air particles or other direct contact.

In response, many food delivery services are moving to contactless drop-offs, or encouraging customers to take advantage of drop-off instructions to minimize the chance of spreading the virus. Earlier in March, food delivery service Postmates introduced a feature called Dropoff Options, giving customers the ability to choose to either meet their delivery driver at the door, curbside, or go non-contact and have deliveries left at the door. Grocery delivery service Instacart launched a Leave at My Door Delivery option across the US.

Here are three tips for safely ordering food or grocery delivery, if you are sick, quarantined, or just staying in to try and stay healthy.

Leave delivery instructions
Whenever you order take-out or groceries online, you’ll see an empty field titled “delivery instructions.” Normally, you might use this to provide a gate code, but now, you can ask drivers to drop off food at the door, or send a photo of where the food should be left. Customers can often also contact their driver directly through the apps to make any delivery arrangements, as soon as the driver accepts the order.

You can keep up to date on what your preferred delivery app or service is doing to mitigate infection on their websites. For example, DoorDash is distributing hand sanitizer and gloves to drivers, and is working with restaurants to share some best practices for handling food at this time, like taping over ends of straws, a spokesperson said.

Grubhub provided drivers and restaurants with the CDC’s recommendations for best hygiene and appropriate precautions for interacting with others, a spokesperson told CNET. Uber Eats is also giving drivers car disinfectant, prioritizing “cities with the greatest need,” according to its website.

Immediately wash your hands
To play it safe, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, and avoid touching your face after bringing your food or grocery delivery inside.

Restaurants and other food services are highly regulated by health officials, and have had protocols in place for years to avoid spreading influenza, norovirus, hepatitis A and other viruses.

“There is no evidence for COVID-19 being transmitted through food,” Leana Wen, an emergency physician and public health professor at George Washington University, as well as the former Baltimore Health Commissioner, told CNET. “However, the virus can live on instruments that people touch, including takeout containers and utensils. Therefore, people should wash our hands after we touch these items and before we eat or touch our faces.”

There are no rules in terms of how to remove food from takeout containers, but you’d probably be safest putting it on your own plate or container, throwing out the takeout container and washing your hands before eating.

Like other viruses, coronavirus can also survive on surfaces or objects, so it’s important to keep those clean. Recycle the bags that the food comes in, and disinfect your tables and counters before and after you eat.

You should also follow normal food safety procedures from the CDC, like refrigerating leftovers within two hours. It’s also best not to share utensils or cups with your fellow diners.

Overtip your driver. It’s the right thing to do
Food delivery drivers are typically either paid by the job (on gig platforms like DoorDash) or by the hour (at other restaurants). They don’t have a work from home option if they want to earn money.

CNET’s Dale Smith recommends tipping food delivery drivers 20% or more during special circumstances like these. The safest way to tip your driver is through a food delivery app. If you tip with cash, make sure to wash your hands after you touch any bills. And if you have to sign a receipt to add a tip via credit card, use your own pen and again, wash those hands afterward.

Best noise cancelling headphones deals: Bose QuietComfort 35 II…

The Bose QC35 II shows why the company is so popular amongst travelers with class-leading noise cancellation and balanced sound. They may not be the most detailed or exciting-sounding headphones but they will sound great to most listeners. The addition of Google Assistant is a nice addition but not a must-have.

There may be a new noise-canceling kid on the block since the release of the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 in summer 2019, but that doesn’t mean that the QuietComfort 35 II should be written off – in fact, they’re still among the best noise-canceling headphones we’ve tested.

If you want a top of the line pair of headphones, then you’ll definitely want a pair that offer both wireless operation and active noise cancellation – which is no easy feat considering the issues that frequently arise around Bluetooth and audio quality.

Bose already offered a pair of such headphones (the impressive Bose QuietComfort 35), but with the increased importance of voice assistants, it’s seen fit to update its flagship headphones with built in support for Google Assistant.

Enter the Bose QC35 II NC, which were the first pair of headphones in the world that integrate’s Google’s voice assistant – and since their 2017 release, lots of other brands have followed suit.

The Bose QC35 II NC look exactly like the previous generation headphone save for the new Google Assistant button located on the left earcup. The headphones come in black or silver and its design is … well, stiflingly generic. This makes them perfect for modest business class travelers, but less perfect for those who like their headphones to make an impression.

Also disappointing is its plastic build, which is nice for saving weight but feels extremely cheap especially compared to luxury headphones like the Master & Dynamic MW50, which bathes your head with lambskin leather and aluminum.

Thankfully, the plastic build doesn’t affect the headphone’s ability to take punishment as it feels very solid. The headphones also come with a hard case for traveling, which is nicer than the pouches that many headphone makers opt to include.

The plastic build does help the QC35 II NC in terms of comfort and we were impressed by just how comfortable the headphone was to use for extended periods. Although plastic doesn’t feel as nice as metal, it does wonders in weight savings which travelers will love on long flights.

The pads Bose use in the QC35 II NC are amazing, as they block out a ton of ambient noise even when noise cancellation is switched off. This is great if you want to preserve battery and listen with noise cancellation off.

Similarly, controls on the headphone are simple and effective: You have a power and pairing slider on the right earcup as well as buttons for volume up/down and playback. The left earcup houses just one button for Google Assistant, though you can remap the button to toggle noise cancellation levels using Bose’s Android or iOS app.

Google Assistant is the Bose QC35 II NC’s headline feature and it works well for the most part. Throughout our testing, we were impressed by the speed and accuracy of Google Assistant and how well the headphones were able to pick up our voice even on a crowded train and coffee shop.

Before you power on the headphone for the first time, you’re prompted to download the Bose app for your phone as the headphone will require using the app for many features like toggling noise cancellation, remapping the Google Assistant button, updating firmware and more.

The app is simple and worked well though we suffered some connectivity issues from time to time on Android where the app wouldn’t detect our headphones. Restarting the app would fix this so hopefully Bose will continue working on its mobile app to be more stable.

Using Google Assistant with the Bose QC35 II NC works just like it would on Google Home. You can ask it to read headlines, add reminders, or myriad other questions. The Assistant will also read you your notifications as they come in, which is nice but may be redundant if you have a smartwatch already.

In short, the addition of Google Assistant is nice to have but is by no means the reason you should buy the Bose QC35 II NC: buy this headphone for its excellent noise cancellation, balanced sound, and incredible comfort.

Where Bose fall short is simple things like automatically pausing your music when you take off the headphones. There’s also no instant-mute feature like on the Sony WH-1000XM2 where you can put your palm over an earcup to hear what’s going on around you. This feature is a godsend to travelers who need the ability to hear the airport PA quickly. It’s disappointing Bose doesn’t include these features when the budget Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2 has both.

Bose’s forte is active noise cancellation and it shows with the QC35 II NC. Switching on noise cancellation is like walking into a quiet room after being on a busy city street. The headphone does an excellent job of drowning out everything from the rumble of a train, cars driving by and even voices.

There’s still some pressure we felt with noise cancellation turned on but it wasn’t bad. (However, those sensitive to noise cancellation pressure may not like them.) The headphones do an excellent job of blocking out ambient noise even with noise cancellation turned off, which is a testament to Bose’s earpad design.

In terms of sound, the Bose QC35 II NC is good, but not class leading. While tonal balance is relatively neutral with a slight mid-bass bump, the sound is somewhat soft when compared to competitors like the Sony WH-1000X M2 (previously the Sony MDR-1000X). This means dynamic range is a bit limited and makes for a somewhat dull presentation. Resolution is good but not great and sound stage is about average.

Most listeners will find the sound quality of the Bose great if taken in isolation. Audiophiles will want to go with the Sony WH-1000XM3 or Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 2 instead.

Battery life is rated at an excellent 20 hours with noise cancellation turned on and listening at moderate volumes. We found this rating to be spot on and you won’t have to worry about charging these headphones in the middle of a flight. However, the battery is not removable like the B&O Beoplay H9 so bring a microUSB charging cable and a battery pack just in case.

If you want to save some battery life, you can listen in wired mode with noise cancellation still on, which is a nice option to have. It’s annoying that Bose chose to use a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable – which means finding a replacement won’t be as easy – but it’s not a deal breaker by any means.

Bose took the already-excellent QC35 and updated with Google Assistant. The headphone is identical in every way save for the new Google Assistant button. This means you still get the class-leading noise cancellation Bose is known for, good sound quality, and incredible comfort.

The Google Assistant works well on either Android or iOS and provides a similar experience to using a Google Home. The headphones will also read back your notifications, which may be redundant for smartwatch users. Google Assistant is nice to have but is by no means the reason you should buy this headphone.

Taken as a whole, the Bose QC35 II NC is an excellent headphone for travelers and commuters. Bose has found a good balance of features that will satisfy most mainstream listeners. Audiophiles however, will want to check out our roundup of the best headphones for the very highest sound quality.

If you were already going to buy the QC35’s, there’s really no reason not to get these. You’re already spending hundreds of dollars, might as well get one of the best headphones that Bose has to offer. Even when compared to newer models, these still hold their own.

Sony’s done it again. Despite being a new model for 2018, the Sony WH-1000XM3 are the best noise-cancelling headphones in the world two years in a row. How can that be possible?

That’s because, even though there’s new audio wizardry going on, they are for the most part a small refinement of last year’s excellent WH-1000XM2.

So what’s changed? the WH-1000XM3 uses the newer USB-C charging standard instead of a legacy microUSB connection, and there is also a bit more padding along the bridge to keep your noggin’ comfy. But that’s about it.

At first, that lack of substantial improvement gave us some reservations about recommending them – especially when the 1000XM2 could be found for less online. But those days are over. If you want a critically-acclaimed noise-cancelling headset that’s brand-new for 2018 and has two-plus years of experience being the best, the WH-1000XM3 are the way to go.

Nikon Z6

Nikon’s new full-frame mirrorless is the pick of the bunch

Sensor: Full-frame CMOS | Resolution: 24.5MP | Autofocus: 273-point AF | Screen type: 3.0-inch tilt-angle touchscreen, 2,100K dots | Maximum continuous shooting speed: 12fps | Movies: 4K at 30p | User level: Enthusiast/expert

The Nikon Z6 is one of the newest cameras we’ve had the pleasure to test, and it matches youth with excellent usability.

A full-frame mirrorless, it ticks all the boxes for features, performance, and price, with a 24.5MP sensor that offers superb color reproduction and pin-sharp detailing.

For the wobbly-handed there’s a 273-point autofocus system, alongside a 12fps burst-shooting mode for capturing every moment of a fast-moving scene.

Along with these smart touches, it’s an ergonomic body, easy in the hand with sensibly-placed controls and a massive, bright EVF. If you’re already on the Nikon train, you’ll be pleased to hear that a simple FZT adapter will let all your existing F mount lenses work just fine. Whether a pro or an enthusiast looking to upgrade, there’s lots to enjoy here.

Nikon Z6: features
24.5MP full-frame CMOS sensor
All-new lens mount
5-axis in-body image stabilization
As we’ve just touched on, while the Z7 has a 45.7MP resolution the Nikon Z6 features a back-illuminated 24.5MP full-frame sensor, which, while not offering quite the staggering resolving power of its sibling, delivers a pixel count that should satisfy most users. It also means the native ISO range is that bit broader, running from ISO100 to 51,200 (the Z7’s native ISO range is 64-25,600); this can be expanded to 50-204,800, matching the Alpha A7 III.

Like the Z7, the Z6 features Nikon’s new Z lens mount, with Nikon having dropped its long-established F mount for its new full-frame mirrorless cameras. The mount opening is 11mm wider than the F mount at 55mm, while the flange focal distance (the distance between the rear lens element and the sensor) is a very short 16mm.

Nikon believes the larger design and short flange distance will enable its lens engineers to design optics that surpass current F mount designs and make the most of the full-frame sensor, allowing light to easily reach the extreme corners of the sensor to ensure even brightness across the frame.

Launching with the Z6 and Z7 are the first three lenses in Nikon’s new S-Line range: a 24-70mm f/4 standard zoom, a 35mm f/1.8 wide-angle prime and a 50mm f/1.8 standard prime. The new mount diameter also allows for lenses with maximum apertures as fast as f/0.95, with a high-end manual-focus 58mm f/0.95 S Noct prime lens expected next year.

For existing Nikon DSLR users who are looking to make the switch to the new mirrorless cameras, or who want to shoot with one alongside their current Nikon DSLR kit, there’s a new FTZ mount adapter that will be compatible with approximately 360 Nikon lenses, 90 of which which will support the Z6’s full AF speed.

The Nikon Z6 features a 0.5-inch 3.6 million dot Quad-VGA electronic viewfinder (EVF) with an impressive magnification of 0.80x, which edges out the Sony Alpha A7 III’s 2.36-million dot and 0.78x display. The Z6 also uses Nikon’s own optics, which are claimed to deliver even greater clarity, while the EVF has a fast display rate of up to 60p.

Supplementing this is a large 3.2-inch tilt-angle touchscreen with a 2,100,000-dot resolution, while the Z6 also benefits from a compact top plate LCD displaying key shooting information.

While Nikon’s DSLRs use lens-based image stabilization (which Nikon calls Vibration Reduction), for its new mirrorless cameras it’s opted for an in-camera system, with the Z6 featuring a 5-axis system (roll, pitch, yaw and X and Y shift) that’s said to be effective for up to five stops. For those wanting to use their F-mount VR lenses on the Z6 via the mount FTZ adapter, the camera’s built-in VR system will adjust itself to support the lens-based system.

There’s also an electronic Vibration Reduction system (known as E-VR) that’s designed to reduce the impact of camera shake when shooting movies handheld. Speaking of movies, the Nikon Z6 can shoot 4K UHD video up to 30p, while there’s also the option to shoot Full HD video in 60p and 120p slow-motion footage in HD format.

Like other recent Nikon cameras, the Z6 features the company’s fairly clunky SnapBridge image transfer system. This uses a low-energy Bluetooth connection between the camera and your smart device (via the free app), with images downscaled to 2MP and transferred from camera to device as you shoot. If you’d rather get your hands on the high-res images, you can individually select them in-camera, with a Wi-Fi connection established if you opt for this method. Alternatively, the Z6 will offer an open Wi-Fi connection if you want to bypass SnapBridge.

While you might expect to find a couple of SD card slots on the Z6, Nikon has instead opted for a single XQD slot. This is quite a brave move, considering the limited availability of XQD cards, with only Sony versions currently available. The performance advantages are clear though, and Nikon’s hope is that once CFExpress cards (essentially an update to the XQD format, with the same physical connections, and with more manufacturer support) become more widely available, this will be the more future-proof solution.

The Nikon Z6 gets a new rechargeable Li-ion battery, the EN-EL15b, but the camera is also compatible with the EN-EL15a battery used in the likes of the D850; however unlike the older unit the EN-EL15b supports USB charging, and unlike the Z7, the Z6 won’t be supplied with an AC adapter, and will rely solely on USB charging. Disappointingly, Nikon only quotes a 310-shot battery life for the camera, which is 400 shots down on the Alpha A7 III’s 710. However, the Z7 is quoted for 330 shots, but we’ve found that in real-world use we were more likely to get around 600 shots, so we’d expect it to be a similar story here.

A progress report keeps parents updated on total time spent reading, number of words looked up, badges earned, and books read.

Tackle more challenging books

For kids reading their first chapter books, Word Wise, available on many popular English language titles, makes it easier to enjoy and quickly understand more challenging books. Short and simple definitions automatically appear above difficult words, so they can keep reading with fewer interruptions. Tap on a word to bring up a simple card with definitions, synonyms, and more.

Read children’s books and comics

Kindle supports children’s books with Kindle Text Pop-Up, and comic books with Kindle Panel View which allows you to read a comic book panel by panel.

Amazon FreeTime Unlimited

For as little as $2.99 per month, kids get unlimited access to hundreds of hand-picked chapter books and early readers, all curated for age-appropriateness, so parents don’t have to spend time and money guessing what their kids will enjoy.

Vocabulary Builder

When kids look up words on Kindle, they are automatically added to the Vocabulary Builder on their device. With Vocabulary Builder, they can use flashcards to learn the definitions and usage of words.

Easy-to-use parental controls

Parents can have peace of mind that kids won’t access inappropriate content or websites, or accidentally make purchases as Amazon Free Time blocks access to browsing and purchasing in the Kindle Store, access to the Internet, access to Wikipedia, and disables social sharing.
